Welcome to

Fregon Anangu School

Learners of Today, Learners Tomorrow

Fregon Anangu School services a community in the middle of the APY lands. It is now readily accessible by car along our new gravel roads. The journey takes approximately 2 hours from Marla and is a most spectacular drive. Some visitors fly to Yulara and take the 3 ½ hour drive along more demanding NT roads to access the communities that make up the APY.

Fregon has an enrolment of 65 students from birth to year 12 and as such is a middle sized school in comparison to other Lands schools. The Fregon School and preschool/playgroup are a focal point for the community. We run or help in many cultural and annual events which build our community spirit and identity and keeps culture strong.

The school and preschool operate a culture of learning which encourages students to work to their potential. Fregon values community input and is continuing to develop curriculum which is relevant to the context and lives our children live in. We recognise that there are many issues which impact on the students but we maintain a focus on continued growth and development by offering targeted programs in literacy and maths and an integrated approach across all other curriculum areas.

The team of professionals that work at Fregon reap the rewards of taking on the unique challenge of working in remote South Australia.

The Preschool

Fregon features an impressive preschool/family centre which is the newest on the APY lands. The preschool is central to our focus on early years to build a successful learning culture now and into the future at Fregon.

The School

At Fregon School, there are lots of special people, big and little, doing special things for each other and together. Comments we hear regular from visitors include:

“There’s such a good feel about the place” “I love visiting your school” “It feels really positive. I feel at home”

In 2016 Fregon was the first school on the APY lands to host Prime Minister the Hon Malcolm Turnbull for 2 days.

The school has a strong connection with the community and other schools in the area especially Kenmore Park, Ernabella and Mimili school where our students complete their swimming lessons.

The school has a very important link with the Victor Harbor community and school with an exchange which has taken place for over 35 years. The students also participate in events in Alice Springs, Yulara and Adelaide.

WinSpirit held a creative works competition among the Fregon Anangu School students.
